Exercise is important to weight loss
Exercise prevents muscle loss so it is important to exercise when you are losing weight. Exercise will protect your muscles and keep your metabolic rate (the amount of energy expended in a given period) ticking over at a healthy level. The number of people who are overweight people is increasing rapidly due to our modern sedentary lifestyles. Unfortunately, for most of us , physical activity is no longer a natural part of our lifestyle so it should be structured into our daily routine.
Get moving – it will give you energy
I often hear people say: ”I am out of energy to do any activity, I’m so tired” Are you one of them? The reason they actually tired and out of energy because they are inactive and sedentary, their bodies learn not to ”over spend” and it’s infinite cycle of tiredness that follows day in and day out until of course you decide to break out of it and start with just as little as 10 minutes of walking around the block where you live or park near by, you will amazed how alive you will feel, if not from a first time you do it, give it a few times… It’s in our ancestors genes to be active and full of energy, our modern society has just forgotten this! You can even increase your activity levels by simply increasing your movement throughout the day. The human body is designed for movement and any physical activity brings benefit. Moderate intensity exercise – walking, gardening, cycling, even mowing the lawn – has been shown to help reduce body fat. Exercise does not have to be overly strenuous to do any good. Even moderate amounts of physical activity can speed up the metabolic rate (the amount of energy expended in a given period) and aid weight loss. The amount of energy you ”burn up” depends on your age, your gender and your activity level. Young people burn more than energy than older people. Men burn more energy than women do. More physically active people burn more energy than your average couch potato!
Other ideas for being more active include:
1. Play a sport you enjoy
2. Walk instead of taking the car on short trips
3. Get off the train, bus or tram one stop early and walk the rest of the way
4. Play more outdoor games with your children
5. Walk the dog
6. Take stairs instead of lifts
7. Choose exercise activities that you think are fun, rather than those you think are ”good” for you
8. Join a walking club, great for your health and for socializing , there are different types of walks: easy, moderate or strenuous
9. Make a commitment to a friend to meet once a week somewhere for a drink that requires a walk to of minimum of 1 mile
